In the 70’s I punched cows during one spring roundup for the ranch,there were 3 of us,we stayed at the bunkhouse at the main ranch,another cowboy named Bill and a Navajo Indian and I was hired as the extra hand for the roundup..I was from Vermont.We loaded up the horses in the trailer in the morning and drove out to near where the cattle was,Bill and I would round up strays and drive them down to the holding pens where the Navajo would calf and inject the critters against scowers.I think the round up lasted less than 3 weeks then they did not need the extra hand for cattle.They asked if I wanted to work the sheep.I said I would try it but went out to the sheep range and did not like it,the smell or eating mutton so I only stayed one night then hitched a ride out on the hay truck and moved on.
