The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has compiled and submitted to Congress dairy checkoff reports that had been missing since 2012. The federally mandated annual reports are required to account for dairy checkoff program activities, spending, and effectiveness. In September, the Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) called on USDA to hold itself accountable for dairy farmers’ checkoff tax dollars. Already riddled in scandal, OBC and OCA continue to break the law.

In a letter to Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, OCM requests a meeting to discuss and highlight abuses within the commodity Research & Promotion (checkoff) programs which occurred during the previous administration.

The missing reports follow a history of documented abuses of checkoff tax dollars in the commodity programs and cover-ups of those abuses by the USDA, and it comes as more than 80 farm organizations urge Congress to pass pending legislation that would bring much-needed transparency and accountability to the secretive government programs.
